The Road to Redemption Starts Here

April 11, 2018 – For those that watched The Gauntlet this week, you witnessed a beautiful spectacle, the ABL’s most storied team, GG Forfeit at Fifteen, dominating two strong teams (Vital Point Storm and No Name Necessary) to lock in the 6th and final playoff spot for Season 3. Some fans called this a “miracle run” for GGF, but let’s dissect this bold claim and see if it has merit.

GGF is one of the most exciting teams to watch in the ABL Series, in Season 1 (when they were Team Little Giant), they made a huge splash and really upped the competitive play in the league. However, they fell short in the Playoffs against Team Drill City, in a very close 2-1 series. Season 2 they had one of the closest Best of 5 Series we have seen yet against the favorites-to-win, The Dongo Lords, managing to eek out a Game 5 win and advance to the Semi-Finals; only to be crushed 3-0 by Ares eSports.

When GGF entered Season 3, they had a rocky start, but thanks to the organization’s owner, Goertzen and fiercely dedicated coach, Skywish, the team was able to turn things around in the latter half and become a force to reckon with. The star of the GGF-show this season has to be their rookie Jungler, Virginnico, who outclassed Reborn Gaming in Week 8, to lead his team to a 2-0 victory and is continuing his dominance with no signs of slowing down.

The Gauntlet run, had GGF go 2-1 against Vital Point Storm in Round 1 and crush N3 2-0 in Round 2. A testament to GGF’s growth this season, as they lost to VPS (2-1 series) in Week 1 and N3 in Week 2 (2-0 series). In a post-game interview, Goertzen said that breaking the “GGF Playoff Curse” and making it out of the Semi-Finals is not enough for him, they want a Championship. GGF is often compared to “The Avengers”; they always struggle to take down their enemies, but they put on a good show and get the job done.

Our redemption story doesn’t stop here, GGF is not the only team that is hungry for the ABL Championship title. We also have the Season 2 Champions, WildDog and Gaymer hungry for back-to-back titles with their new org, The Kawaii Knights. Their former Enter The Beast teammates, Dagas, BusterToast and Pectus were eliminated in the Gauntlet last night; the hopes and dreams of former ETB fans now rest on them to bring it home and the next challenge standing in their way is Team Royal Luck.

Team Royal Luck in the Pre “Doctor Hi/Quuadra” era was not really a team to fear, but this Bot Lane Duo has breathed new life in to the organization. Although they took a big beating from The Kawaii Knights (in particular Solekks), they can bounce back. Individually they have some of the best mechanical players, but as a team we will have to see if they can get it done. Cast your votes for the Quarter Finals Match Up Predictions below!
